Dr. Madan Naik

Dr. Madan Naik, a Veterinarian-turned-Researcher completed his PhD in Molecular Medicine and post-doctorate from the University of Adelaide, Australia in the year 2007 after his BVSc. (Veterinary Medicine) and MVSc. in Molecular Genetics. He has worked on ‘Identification of Feed Intake Regulation Metabolic Pathways in Beef cattle’, which is now a patented method. He has contributed to various nation-wide research programs through Coordinated Research Committees (CRC), Australia for Beef and Sheep species.

Dr. Naik was a recipient of several fellowships including World Bank’s CGIAR Visiting Research Fellowship to work on molecular genetics of Trypanoresistant N’Dama cattle breed, through which he has visited different eminent research institutes in different countries like the International Livestock Research Institutes (ILRI), Nairobi; INRA-France, USDA-USA. Dr. Naik has also contributed to genetic mapping of cattle on a visiting fellowship with Dept. of Animal Genetics, University of Adelaide, Australia in the year 2001. Later on, Dr. Naik was accepted to continue his doctorate work on fellowship with the Dept. of Animal Genetics, University of Adelaide, Australia in the year 2003.

He was awarded the geneticist-physician scholarship from Welcome-Unilever trust to contribute his research work on feed intake regulation at the Days of Molecular Medicine (DMM) conference at Sanger institute, Cambridge, UK, 2004. Dr. Naik has also received the junior scientist award from the International Society of Animal Genetics (ISAG) in the year 2004 held in Tokyo. Dr. Naik has also received the prestigious International Cathy Candler award in the year 2005 to present his scientific contributions at the Animal Genetics segment of the ISAG conference held in Brazil.

After returning to India, Dr. Naik has worked as Head-Proteomics in two different companies. Later on he assumed responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer in System Biology Worldwide, which is a Drug Discovery CRO company, based in Helsinki, Finland. During his tenure with previous companies, he has filed 5 patents in protein biomarker discovery for breast cancer patients. Apart from his academic and professional achievements, Dr. Naik is proactively involved in biotechnology and medical molecular imaging research projects with different scientific overseas groups as well as in India.
